Mr and Mrs Dearly

I'm going to be typing more professionally in this description, since I'm entering a competition. These two characters are from 101 Dalmatians, Mr and Mrs Dearly. In this scenario, I changed their characteristics a bit by making them vain and greedy, as they successfully made their dalmatians into clothing, making them millionaires.

The Idea

I originally got the idea from when I was talking to my mum, brainstorming different villains. She said "Cruella De Vil", and I was going to illustrate her as a hero, but I made designs for these two and I just went with it. 

Artistic Choices

I created the drawing in black and white to make the characters look more sinister and menacing, with the vibrant shades of red to make the drawing look more bold, and to represent the blood of the poor puppies. I wanted to challenge myself when making this piece, as I have never really used heavy, dark shades in my previous pieces.

I chose to use a more "unique" art style, somewhat reminiscent to Disney. However, I didn't want to design these two characters straight from the Disney movie, so I changed up their designs a bit. Crumpled paper textures were used in the frame background to differentiate itself from the characters in the foreground. I also added dull gradient shades of red to make the background more unique. 

I'm not too sure if this qualifies, but I had a lot of fun drawing this piece!
